Future of Two-Way Radio Industry?

With WiMAX push-to-talk coupled with WiMAX, why do First Responders need two-way radio?

Dateline November 14, 2012, Middleville, USA: Middleville, Fire and Police Departments today announced a two year, $2.7 million contract with Zip-Zip WiMAX for its WiMAX push to talk, DatAnywhereNow, and mobichat services. Middleville Chief of Police Malcolm "Butch" Johnson says "We went to the WiMAX service because it met all our communications needs. We outgrew two way radio some time ago and found the wireless data made our team much more efficient crime fighters".  Chief Johnson went on to express enthusiasm for Zip-Zip's wireless broadband services that will enable patrolmen to check databases for the latest information during traffic stops.

"Our guys really appreciate the push-to-talk over WiMAX service because we can also use it as a phone to call outside the hospital network," states United Ambulance Responders spokeswoman Karolyn Gabenov, "it sure beats that old two-way radio in flexibility and functionality!"

"We're sure to almost eliminate our cell phone costs for our mobile city workers" pointed out City Communications Director Chad Cameron referring to the new contract. "The auditors were really going over those cell phone bills with a fine toothed comb, but now we're on our own VoIP over WiMAX that interoperates with the City's IP-PBX, so we have no monthly recurring costs for mobile worker's phone usage. We also don't have manpower costs related to radio dispatchers. Everyone just calls and speaks with who they need to. The taxpayers like that a lot."

Over at City Gas, Electric and Water, Utilities Manager Arthur "Bud" Subotnik expressed deep satisfaction that all metering devices are now connected to the WiMAX network cutting his operating expenses in half. "Thanks to the WiMAX metering technologies, we are now a profitable operation." Looks like Mayor Martinez is well on her way to re-election.

Memo to municipal readers: you don't have to wait until 2012. This technology is available today. Its called WiMAX, IP and VoIP. There is an emerging list of vendors that integrate all wireless and IP applications for what are mostly public sector markets. Stay tuned to this blog for more info….
