Alcatel-Lucent selected in Taiwan

WiMAX in Taiwan

Taiwan's Chunghwa Telecom has selected Alcatel-Lucent to deploy WiMAX network in Taiwan. Alcatel-Lucent is a company formed by merger between French equipment supplier 'Alcatel' and US network infrastructure supplier 'Lucent Technologies'. The two transatlantic telecom giants merged during the end of last year with their new headquarter in Paris. Following the merger company expects to obliterate 12,500 jobs.

The WiMAX network deployment in Taiwan is considered to be part of the Mobile Taiwan Project. The network will be based on IEEE 802.16e-2005 standard. This network will allow high-speed wireless applications such as Internet, VPN, Remote Medical and E-learning services. The network will cover the densely populated commercial metropolitan area.
