Russia gets WiMAX licenses
WiMAX in Russia
Russia has decided not to stay behind in the drive to embrace WiMAX. Comstar UTS, a Russian Telco operator has obtained licenses for WiMAX. The licenses are issued to provide Voice over IP and other data services in Russia. Comstar UTS is backed by AFK Sistema. Sistema is the largest private sector consumer services company in Russia.
The largest twenty regions of Russia are likely to benefit from this service. However, it is indefinite which regions are going to be among the twenty to get this broadband wireless service. The licenses will remain valid until late 2011.
