Taiwan flirting With WiMAX?
According to press releases by Alvarion, Taiwan has chosen this WiMAX company to deploy the 802.16e mobile WiMAX in the city of TaiChung. The selection was made by Taiwan’s Asia Pacific Telecom Group (APTG), which is an initiative by the government to make broadband more available to the people. The spectrum being used for WiMAX in Taiwan is at the 2.5Ghz band.
This is just one of the initiatives Taiwan is taking to better understand WiMAX and its capabilities. The country is also partnering with regional telco’s such NEC of Japan and some more father away such as Nortel of Canada and Germany’s Rhode and Shwarz. Through this collaboration, Taiwan hope’s to become more competitive internationally in the WiMAX arena. Yet another company jumps on the WiMAX bandwagon. Who’s next?
