WiMAX Spilling Over into the Cell Phone Industry?

Today, cell phone carriers have a monopoly over PDA and cell phone devices that connect to the internet. Basically, large Telco’s lock customers into year long contracts because subscribers do not have choice or an alternative. And this cost is in addition to the broadband internet service consumers pay for at home.

WiMAX will change all that. Instead of paying for internet service per device, WiMAX will allow users to surf the internet from any of their devices (laptop, cell phones) with a single account. The Apple iPhone already has a built in Wi-Fi feature, which essentially eliminates the need of being locked into one carrier or contract.

Yet again, WiMAX turns out to be the technology for the people, eliminating the hold that large Telcos have over consumers.
