America’s Most Wanted Christmas Gift” Goes WiMAX?

ASUS’ Eee PC met early success with its intuitive design and extremely low cost. Since then, thousands have been sold in both the United States and abroad–with the Eee even becoming the educational PC of choice for the Fresno School District in California.

According to a news release last month, results on polls done through Amazon and CNET both placed the Eee at the top of Americans’ Christmas wish lists.

This week ASUS announced that it will be upgrading the popular Eee PC with a line of accessories detailed by Digital Trends. However, most noteworthy is the suggestion that the newer Eee model will be WiMAX-compatible. Asus is even sponsoring a WiMAX event at the CES expo. Though there are a variety of WiMAX-enabled products that have been developed and are continuing to be developed, an affordable and popular platform like the Eee connecting via WiMAX could do wonders in both building awareness of the technology and inciting its use. It will be interesting to see if any details are released at the CES expo in a couple of weeks. The more WiMAX-enabled products are developed, the better it is for the future of the technology.
