Hopling Networks announces HopMAX product family
Networking equipment vendor introduces 802.16e-2005 radios for outdoor fixed wireless applications.
Hopling Networks announced its HopMAX 802.16e-2005 product line including base
stations and outdoor subscriber stations for fixed and stationary wireless
deployments.
The outdoor WiMAX base station (HopMAX 2000 series) and subscriber radios (HopMAX
1000 series) are based on the 802.16e-2005 standard and WiMAX Forum Wave2
certification requirements, though neither has completed formal certification.
The HopMAX base station supports the 2.5~2.7 GHz or 3.3~3.8 GHz frequency
spectrum bands with up to 1,000 simultaneous subscriber station connections.
The compact design provides deployment flexibility where weight and cost impair
equipment mounting choices.

By interconnecting Hopling Networks' HopWARE wireless mesh base nodes with
HopMAX base stations, the company offers a hybrid network combining clusters of
802.11a/b/g/n base nodes and 802.16e-2005 base stations, potentially lowering
transport costs for municipal wireless data requirements and handling a variety
of applications. "Together both wireless access methods; mobile WiMAX and
fast mesh networks are ideal companions for enabling convenient, affordable
personal mobile broadband Internet services," said Frank Koopman, chief
executive officer of Hopling Networks.
Hopling Technologies and Fujitsu announced in September 2006 that they would
collaborate on a Linux-based Hopling Board Support Package designed to
accelerate equipment development of 802.16-2004 (fixed WiMAX) to add innovative
applications to the standards-based Fujitsu solution. The reference kit,
which includes a reference board utilizing the integrated MB87M3550 WiMAX SoC,
software package and operating manual, has been available from Fujitsu since
Q1'2007. The company also continues to develop WiMAX macro base station
systems, micro base stations and subscriber stations in the licensed and
unlicensed bands.
