Neo-Sky prepares for Spanish field trials of mobile WiMAX
Alcatel-Lucent selected to provide turnkey network system and services for evaluation in Madrid.
Alcatel-Lucent today announced that it has been selected by service provider
Neo-Sky in Spain to field trial an
802.16e-2005 mobile broadband network in Madrid. Services anticipated for
testing during the trial include Voice over IP (VoIP), high-speed Internet
access and multimedia broadband for nomadic users.
Neo-Sky 2002, S.A. ("Neo-Sky") is a Spanish communications service
provider offering high-capacity services for enterprises based on LMDS, fiber
and satellite technology. The provider is one of six operators to hold
WiMAX spectrum licenses in Spain. Clearwire's Aló-Broadcom, Euskaltel,
France Telecom's Orange, Marin Telecom's aeromax and Telefónica's Iberbanda are
the other five.
The equipment vendor will provide Neo-Sky with an end-to-end WiMAX system,
including base stations and WiMAX access controllers, and IP Multimedia
Subsystem (IMS) core networking equipment, software and application platforms
and end-user terminals. The IMS architecture enables the delivery of
advanced and personalized telephony and multimedia services from fixed and
mobile access. Design and planning services before deployment and
maintenance and provisioning services after installation are also within the
scope of the arrangement.
"With this WiMAX field trial we are laying the foundations to know the
performances that the future commercial networks will be able to support to meet
our corporate customer's requirements for easy-to-use wireless broadband
services offering nomadic capabilities, including voice, data, and multimedia,
and best-in-class quality of service." said Cesar Arranz, Executive President of
Neo-Sky. By using a standards-based infrastructure system, Neo-Sky will be
able to select and offer a vast range of end-user devices by form, fit and
function.
