Tranzeo enters WiMAX base station market
Equipment vendor sees opportunity for an integrated, aggressively priced 3.5 GHz pico base station using 802.16-2004.
Canada's Tranzeo Wireless Technologies Inc. announced its first WiMAX base station, the TR-WMX-3.5-pBS. The self-contained pico base station is designed for broadband service providers with small footprint requirements or limited subscribers per base station, such as enterprise deployments or fill-in coverage found in urban canyons.
The base station is bundled with Proximetry's AirSync software for central management and subscriber provisioning. AirSync contains three integrated modules (Provisioning Manager, Resource Manager, Device Manager) that deliver assured service levels.
Sixteen WiMAX Forum Certified base stations are available at 3.5 GHz. Base stations do not have the price sensitivity typically associated with subscriber devices. A multi-radio base station chassis for macro or micro cell deployment ranges in price from $10,000-20,000. Tranzeo hopes to make waves with a price of $1,950 for its pico cell solution. Only the Tsunami MP.16 3500 base station from Proxim Wireless offers a similar integrated design. The MP.16 has a list price of $4,999.
Founded in 2000, Tranzeo is headquartered in Greater Vancouver, British Columbia. The company manufactures a wide range of microwave radio equipment for point-to-point, point-to-multipoint and mesh applications.
The TR-WMX family of WiMAX radios includes outdoor subscriber stations and a mini-PCI card. The TR-WMX-3.5-pBS will begin shipping to customers in the second quarter of 2008.
