What is New at the Tower Technology Summit at CTIA?
A crucial segment of the wireless and broadband wireless industry meets each year at CTIA to talk Towers and more.
Each year a relatively unknown segment of the wireless industry, the Tower Infrastructure industry, meets at CTIA for a series of sessions to discuss the health of the industry, its future and the challenges it and its customers face. I had the fun task this year of putting together the sessions for the Tower Technology Summit, which has been very well attended. Our first day say sessions on Wall Street's take on the industry, a wonderful session on the outcome of the 700 MHz auction (with terrific slides) and numerous other tower specific sessions.
Whatever doom and gloom might pervade the wireless industry in general is not shared by the Tower Infrastructure guys. The business is healthy and expecting strong growth in the coming years seemed to be the consensus of all.
Everyone is excited about WiMAX. Yes they like WiMAX as it means more business. The 700 MHz auction is big news here too. The Tower segment nevertheless is a relatively unknown one in terms of the national broadband wireless conversation, but I promise you it is a crucial part of it.
We have more sessions today and I will update you on how those went. We have sessions getting into the nuts and bolts of 700 MHz tower requirements, backhaul and lots more.
