WiMAX mobile phone
Here at the Consumer Electronics Show in La Vegas, I stumbled across something I've been predicting for a few years now-a commercially-available WiMAX mobile phone.
The vendor is a Japanese company called Net Index (www.netindex.co.jp) don't expect any details on the phone there, though).
Here's the specs:-2.5 GHz
-IEEE 802.16e
-uses Runcom's PCMCIA chipset
-works on 5 and 10 MHz channels
-2.2 inch screen
-USB jack
-SIP-based VoIP
While I have long heard rumors of a WiMAX Motorola RAZR, this is the first WiMAX phone I've laid eyes on. I made a brief demo call, too. The quality was OK (having demo'd VoIP stuff at trade shows for almost ten years, one shouldn't make any real judgement calls based on that experience). In short, this phone or phone like it will be a key part of the WiMAX ecosystem. See attached photo…
