Yota Secures Spectrum, Plans WiMAX Launch in Peru
Russian WiMax operator Yota has won its bid to operate broadband internet services in Peru, according to news service Andina in that country. Yota del Peru will launch the 2668 MHz - 2692 MHz band in the provinces of Lima, Callao and Trujillo and the 2668 MHz - 2690 MHz band in the rest of the country.
According to the state agency for promoting private investment, ProInversion, Yota extended an offer of $3.9 million to the Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC). The contract, signed last week, specifies that Yota is expected to deploy 9,000 connections in its first year and 60,000 connections by its fifth year. The company says it expects its investment during this time to reach $100 million.
