Free wireless cover for KL

City folk can now surf the Internet for free, thanks to a new wireless broadband access network.

For starters, 200 WiFi zones have been set up in the Golden Triangle.

By December the e will be 1,500 hotspots in commercial centres, of f ices, public places and City Hall housing schemes. Another 2,000 will follow next year.

The KL Wireless Metropolitan initiative was launched by Federal Territories Minister Datuk Seri Zulhasnan Rafique at City Hall’s headquarters yesterday. KL Mayor Datuk Ab Hakim Borhan, City Hall director-general Da tuk Sa l l eh Yusop and CEO of Packet One Networks Michael Lai were also present.

The initiative by City Hall , Malaysian Communicat ions and Multimedia Commission, Synapse Technologies Sdn Bhd and Packet One Networks would make KL the first city in the world to use WiMAX 2.3 Gigahertz.
