Growing Number of Austin Businesses Adopt Airband’s WiMAX-based Broadband Services

InterContinental Stephen F Austin Hotel and Lieberman Software Corporation are among enterprises benefiting from Airband Communications’ fixed-wireless broadband network

DALLAS and AUSTIN – April 10, 2008 – Airband Communications Inc., the industry’s leading fixed-wireless company for businesses in the United States, today reported that a growing number of Austin businesses are adopting its  scalable fixed-wireless voice and data services because Airband is a reliable and scalable alternative to traditional service providers. Local clients include InterContinental Stephen F Austin Hotel, a leading luxury hotel located in

downtown Austin. The hotel originally selected Airband to provide 20 Mbps of bandwidth to accommodate hotel guests attending the Texas Wireless Summit in 2006. Now, the hotel relies on Airband to provide high-speed wireless data which InterContinental uses to provide Internet access in all guestrooms and throughout the hotel’s lobby and common areas.

“Airband sets itself apart by delivering dependable and easy-to-manage wireless Internet access service, which in turn allows me to offer superior services to my guests,” said Ralph Carnal, IT manager for Stephen F Austin InterContinental Hotel. “Plus, I can easily call Airband and increase my bandwidth needs should I need to accommodate additional guests for meetings and conferences.” Another local technology company, Lieberman Software, relies on Airband as the primary Internet connection for its mission-critical applications. The company leverages Airband’s 10 Mbps data service for real-time collaboration with desktop sharing and audio channels, video conferencing with customers and web hosting. Lieberman Software (www.liebsoft.com) develops advanced systems management solutions that reduce the cost and complexity of administering the Windows enterprise. The company works with clients that include government agencies and Fortune 1000 companies.

“We chose Airband because they offered the right amount of bandwidth we needed, and their service level agreement had a 100-percent uptime guarantee and terms that were far better than their competitors,” said Philip Lieberman, president for Lieberman Software. “Plus, Airband had our service up and running very quickly – rather than waiting the several months for a fiber buildout.”

Airband’s comprehensive suite of services includes high-speed data services up to GigE speeds, Voice over IP and managed firewall/virtual private network. Airband customers benefit from:

  • An affordable choice for last-mile access: Customers have the option to use fixedwirelessservices for bypassing the traditional wireline networks.

  • Austin Businesses Increasingly Adopt WiMAX-based Services (Page 2 of 2)
  • Rapid installation: Most new customers can have service installed in a matter of days,rather than waiting for weeks as is common with wired service installations.
  • Scalable bandwidth: Bandwidth upgrades can be deployed within minutes; plus, customers only buy the bandwidth they need, because Airband services and upgrades are not restricted to T1 and DS3 increments.

Greater reliability: Airband’s services are backed by a 100-percent uptime guarantee and supported by the company’s Network Operations Center that provides 24/7 monitoring and customer service.

Easy to manage: Airband’s service is delivered via an Ethernet connection, making it easy for customers to manage and connect directly to their LAN.
Airband first entered the Austin market in February 2006 to satisfy increasing customer demand for WiMAX-based services. Airband currently operates base stations in downtown Austin and surrounding areas allowing for a total coverage area of 150 square miles. “Austin is home to a number of progressive, high-tech companies that regularly demand cuttingedge
high-bandwidth solutions,” said Layne Levine, president of sales and marketing for Airband. “We are pleased to provide local companies with an affordable and extremely scalable business-class service for last-mile access and point-to-point connectivity.” Airband serves more than 3,500 customers nationwide, and is in the midst of a national expansion. Current Airband markets include Atlanta; Austin, Texas; Baltimore; Charlotte, N.C.;
Dallas/Fort Worth; Greensboro, N.C.; Houston; Philadelphia; Phoenix; Raleigh/Durham, N.C.; San Antonio and Southern California.
