After Sprint Nextel and Clearwire failed in their efforts to deliver a nationwide WiMax network rollout, the two wireless firms decided to bring in some friends to help create a $14.5 billion ultra-fast mobile network.
The new consortium is a complex arrangement – with various players contributing either assets or cash – that still has many hurdles to cross, says Moritz. And while it will take the rest of this year to close, if successful it will give the WiMax platform a significant boost in the US market.
