WiMAX Forum Selects Mobile Metrics AirScan 750 as Official Protocol Monitor

Mobile Metrics, a leading provider of wireless data test systems and protocol monitoring solutions, announced that the WiMAX Forum® has selected the AirScan 750 protocol analyzer to verify the interoperability of WiMAX network infrastructure nodes in Mobile WiMAX Forum Certified™ Test Laboratories around the world.

As part of the WiMAX Forum Network Interoperability Test initiative, reference networks will be set up in all WiMAX Forum Test Laboratories, against which WiMAX equipment vendors can test their implementations. The Mobile Metrics AirScan 750 protocol monitor will serve as a reference point to analyze traffic between nodes and help assess the behavior of equipment-under-test in test scenarios specified by the WiMAX Forum.

"The AirScan 750 is a welcome addition to the WiMAX Forum's infrastructure interoperability test bed," said Ed Agis, Chairman, Certification Working Group, WiMAX Forum. "Mobile Metrics has demonstrated leadership in helping with the test bed and other interoperability tasks. The AirScan 750 will play a key role in helping ensure compliance within multi-platform WiMAX networks."

"We're honored by this selection and delighted to be working with the Forum's Network Interoperability Test initiative," said Asa Atallah, Founder and CEO of Mobile Metrics. "With its graphical tracing capability, the AS-750 makes analyzing complex flows over multiple interfaces simpler than ever, and we expect that will save users time and effort, which is something we always strive for."

This is the second time that Mobile Metrics' WiMAX protocol monitoring capabilities have been selected for use within the wireless data industry. In August 2007, upon request, Mobile Metrics delivered enhancements to Wireshark® giving it the capability of tracing WiMAX traffic on the R6, R4 and R3 interfaces. Since then, Mobile Metrics has added support for Intel's OFDMA PHY SAP protocol. Wireshark is a free network protocol analyzer heavily used throughout the industry.

The AirScan 750 is a standalone protocol monitoring solution that analyzes traffic on the R1, R3, R4, R6 and R8 interfaces. Among its many features are graphical message tracing, sniffer trace import/export, message filtering, graphical display of OFDMA frames, and graphical display of constellation maps.
