Samsung Solidifies Its Leadership in Mobile WiMAX Service in Europe

Samsung showcased Live demonstration of 3.5GHz Mobile WiMAX Solution at WiMAX Forum Global Congress 2009

Amsterdam, The Netherlands, June 2nd, 2009 - Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd., a leading provider of Mobile WiMAX solutions, today demonstrates various Mobile WiMAX services in 3.5GHz band at WiMAX Forum Global Congress 2009, in Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

As a leading company in Mobile WiMAX, Samsung introduced various solutions and devices at today's show. The company demonstrated its 3.5GHz U-RAS Flexible base station which received the world's first WiMAX Forum Certification in January 2009. It was provided to Lithuania's broadcasting service provider (LRTC) for Mobile WiMAX 4G Internet service. LRTC has launched commercial service MEZON in Lithuania's major five cities since the first launching in Vilnius on 3rd March.

In this demonstration, Samsung showed perfect performance with its own devices as well as devices from Mobile WiMAX device partners, Myungmin Systems Inc. in Korea and Accton Wireless Broadband Corp. in Taiwan.

In addition, Samsung exhibited its indoor solution line-ups, U-RAS Light Series 3 Plus base station and U-RAS Femto base station, as well as various customer devices including MID (Mobile Internet Device), mini notebook, Ultra Mobile PC, PDA, PC Card and USB dongle.

Woonsub Kim, Executive Vice President and head of Telecommunication Systems Division of Samsung Electronics, said, "Today's well-established ecosystem in Mobile WiMAX industry will strongly lead the boom of Mobile WiMAX service worldwide. As a leader in Mobile WiMAX industry, Samsung is committed to expand Mobile WiMAX service in European countries based on our leading technology and experiences." he added.

Samsung has provided Mobile WiMAX solutions to 24 major mobile WiMAX operators in 20 countries for commercial or trial service including Clearwire in U.S, UQ Communication in Japan, Yota in Russia and YTL e-solution in Malaysia.

Moreover, Samsung announced the Mobile WiMAX Global Partner Program that recruits competent partners who cooperate with Samsung to expand Mobile WiMAX market worldwide through providing value-added products and services. Samsung's Mobile WiMAX Partners not only support marketing and sales activities in their own countries, but also add their own capabilities to the WiMAX business by distributing various parts like network design, system integration and so on.
