Delivering broadband speeds at up to 12 miles, NLOS in rural Iowa

PureWave Networks, the developer of high performance, compact outdoor Mobile WiMAX (802.16e) base stations announced today that it has been selected by Greenway as the carrier's exclusive provider of Mobile WiMAX equipment.

"We have been testing WiMAX gear for years, but have never been able to find a WiMAX solution that works for us economically as a rural operator," said Chad Potts, CTO of Greenway Communications.  "Our network needs to cover a large area, but the population density in our service territory is low.  To make money as a VoIP operator in rural America we need a solution that can be deployed without an expensive ASN Gateway, and can be installed outdoors to reduce our installation and operating costs.  PureWave Quantum base stations are the solution we have been waiting for."

Serving rural Iowa communities, Greenway is able to deliver residential internet services to customers located up to 12 miles from the base station, even in NLOS conditions.  "With other WiMAX base stations we tried, we could only serve 4 out of every 10 customers who wanted to sign up for our service.  It's tough to make money that way.  With PureWave we can pretty much serve any eligible customer and that's a big deal when you are trying to grow your business."

PureWave Quantum base stations utilize smart antenna technology for greater range and capacity and are based on a software defined radio architecture that allows operators to remotely upgrade their networks as new features are released or as their business needs grow.  Designed to be deployed completely outdoors with no need for either shelter or air-conditioning, PureWave Quantum base stations are easy to deploy and inexpensive to operate.

"Many rural operators and WISPs have considered Mobile WiMAX in the past, but were intimidated by the cost and complexity of the solutions that were available to them.  PureWave Quantum base stations are a whole new ball game", said Gideon Ben-Efraim, PureWave's President and CEO.  "Our solutions are so simple to deploy and operate, and are so affordable, that any network operator can have a carrier grade 4G wireless network.  It's a new era for WiMAX, and you'll be seeing many more rural operators ditching proprietary gear and joining the Mobile WiMAX revolution."
