Solectek today announced that it has been granted FCC and Industry Canada approval to operate its popular WiMAX product solutions in the full 50 MHz channel allocated for WiMAX operations in the US and Canada.  Operation in the upper 25 MHz channels require compliance with stringent protocol specifications that cannot be addressed with standard WiMAX solutions.

“We’ve listened to our customers who are worried about spectrum constraints when operating solely on the lower 25 MHz channels.  Network operators can now overlay more capacity without potential degradation of services related to cell planning issues,” explains Dr.  Eric Lee, CEO of Solectek.

In the United States and Canada, the 3.65 GHz band is reserved for broadband wireless data applications with a light licensing model.  This allows smaller operators to enter the service market without the outlay of substantial costs for spectrum licenses that only a few, nationwide carriers can afford.  The regulatory requirement for the lower 25 MHz (3.65-3.675 GHz) is met with standard WiMAX protocols.  However, operation in the upper 25 MHz requires additional protocols to minimize potential packet contention.

“Solectek’s WiMAX system is now one of a select few solutions that the FCC and Industry Canada have certified for use across all 50 MHz of available spectrum.  We believe this gives us an advantage in the market where operators must carefully consider capacity and long term scalability.  With the effective doubling of the available capacity, we are in a good position to address those concerns,” says Dr.  Lee.

In addition to its 50 MHz capability, Solectek’s SkyWay-MAX WiMAX system also offers advantages such as high output power on both base station and CPE for superior performance and deployment flexibility.  For product details, please contact Solectek at sales(at)solectek(dot)com.
